The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the outbreak of a new virus (Covid-19) in January 2020. WHO stated there is a high risk of the Covid-19 spreading to other countries around the world. National State of Disaster is declared by the South-African government 15 March 2020. The South-African government revealed on 15 March 2020 that the number of people infected with the Covid-19 has risen to 61. Public Hospitals (Worcester Hospital)/Department of Health are taking action to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.
Guidelines by Mr Plumber for prevention of the Covid-19 virus in the workplace:
- Sanitizer or hygienic soap will be provided to the employees.
- Wash your hands/sanitize when entering the premises. (A bottle sanitizer will be at the sign in & out register desk.)
- Employees that work outside Mr Plumber on jobsites shall wash/sanitize their hands immediately when they return.
- Technicians will be provided with scrub brushes and hygienic soaps and shall keep it on their vehicles.
- All employees to receive their own water bottles keep it refilled drink water daily.
- Avoid close contact with people/crowded places.
- Employees will receive face masks to wear especially when they go work on sites.
- Please cover your sneeze/cough with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin.
- Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose.
- Surfaces(desks/tables) and objects(telephones/keyboards) need to be wiped with disinfect every day.
- Employees will be tested with a Thermometer temperature meter every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. (temperature of 37.3C or more the employee should stay at home and self-isolate contact the health authorities)
- Posters will be displayed on our premise; employees need to familiarize themselves.
What will happen should we discover that an employee shows symptoms:
- The suspected person will be isolated to avoid contact with other people.
- Local health authorities (Department of Health) will be contacted immediately to come out to the premises/or the employee will be sent home to isolate themselves or go to the Worcester Hospital to report it.
- Contact Covid-19 Hotline 0800 029 999 from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday if you display any symptoms of the Covid-19 virus.
- Avoid going to the doctor/pharmacist this may cause spreading of the virus.
THE SYMPTOMS:
- The virus will first infect the throat, so you’ll have a sore throat lasting 3 to 4 days.
- The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5 to 6 days further.
- With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
- The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like drowning.

Time off will be handled as sick leave (with necessary documents) please ensure handing in these documents at the HR Department, especially technicians that needs to claim at the BBC.
